A Rehabilitation and Energy Efficiency Project in Barcelona

The Knem office project in Barcelona, located in the former jute factory "El Cánem", blends history with innovation. Developed by B720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos and promoted by URBAN INPUT, the design focuses on structural optimization, sustainability, and energy efficiency.

Structure and Construction Design

The complex consists of three blocks with a shared underground parking level. The vertical structure is resolved through reinforced concrete columns and rigid cores that ensure stability against horizontal forces such as wind.

Structural Solutions for Large Spans

The horizontal structure in blocks A and C uses post-tensioned solid slabs to cover spans over 20 meters, while block B employs conventional slabs. The foundation features deep reinforced concrete piles to ensure the building’s durability.
