Description
The building that shapes the new Evangèlic Hospital takes the form of a rectangular volume whose slab edges adapt to the existing façade. The complex consists of one basement level for various uses and seven upper floors dedicated to the Foundation’s activities.
Structural design
The structure is made of reinforced concrete, with solid slab floor systems and a metal roof forming two inclined planes. The foundation consists of a raft slab, and the retaining system is based on reinforced concrete walls with thicknesses of 45 cm and 60 cm, depending on the specific conditions of adjacent plots or buildings.
Particularities
Among the distinctive features of the building, it is worth highlighting the stabilization of the existing façade using steel profiles, the shoring of five floors by means of a 22-meter-span post-tensioned wall beam located between the second and third floors, and the transfer at the first-floor ceiling of a corner column supporting six upper floors. This was resolved using a system of beams and tension rods, with a temporary support at ground level that was removed following specialized structural monitoring.
