Description
Fundación Germina is a healthcare center consisting of two buildings located on different streets (Algodonales and Cactus), both with rectangular volumes and between party walls. Each building has four floors above ground, one basement in Cactus and two basements in Algodonales.
Structural concept
The horizontal structure is resolved with 25 cm thick solid reinforced concrete slabs, supported by reinforced concrete columns and vertical communication cores. The foundations are resolved using isolated and combined footings. The containment, given the limited space and the fact that it is located between party walls, is resolved with micropile walls with interaxis of 30, 40 and 60cm braced with steel struts. During the construction process, an intense control of the movement of the diaphragm walls was conducted to ensure that it followed the design specifications.
As a particular point, the stair core is independent of the concrete structure and it is resolved using wooden columns and beams to support the stairs. The stringers and treads are solved with steel plates.
