Description
New building for educational use consisting of a large ground floor as an access plaza, two floors above ground and a small basement. It is located in front of the General University Hospital of Ciudad Real. The structure is based on a large reinforced concrete table (measuring 125 x 125 m) that configures a large accessible roof for public use from which the intermediate floors that give use to the teaching building are hung.
Structural design
The ground floor configures an open space for circulation and a public square, remaining buried in the central area, taking advantage of the current topography of the site.
Due to the large dimensions of this waffle slab, the arrangement of post-tensioning cables (of the adherent multistrand type) is foreseen, which has a double function, on the one hand, to control deformations and reduce the levels of passive reinforcement, and, on the other, to that of compressing the concrete of the table so as to control the rheological and temperature effects as it is a 125 x 125 m structure without structural joints.
As a singular point, highlight the arrangement of two large inverted beams that resolve the local problems of deformation in one of the areas of the table.
