Description
This is the conceptual design phase of the new "Palau Blaugrana". The old Miniestadi will be demolished and replaced by the Palau, a basketball arena with a capacity of around 10,000 spectators. The building will have 6 levels, 2 of which are underground.
Design and sections
Underneath the stands of the arena and around its perimeter, the building contains several spaces on each level for different uses. Alongside the new "Palau," a second building will be constructed, consisting of 3 different blocks. A pedestrian bridge will also be built above the existing street to connect the new "Palau" with the area surrounding the "Camp Nou." The bridge reaches the entrance of the stadium and continues as an access platform. The structure of the arena is cantilevered above the access platform level.
Structural solutions
The approach of the structure is basically made with reinforced concrete, although some singular elements will be post-stressed with active reinforcements. The stands will be precast, with an "L" or "inverted L" cross section. The pedestrian bridge covers a span of 70m above the street and a steel solution is proposed, consisting of reinforced beams with variable edges. These will support a reinforced concrete slab on reinforced concrete columns at each end.
